The Nomad Jiu-Jitsu Mission Statement:
The vision of Nomad Jiu-Jitsu is have the ability to pass on the knowledge and tools to create teachers out of students. We want to promote the grappling arts (namely Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu) in a positive and enjoyable manner to secure each student with the mindset that no second is wasted in the academy. We maintain a forward thinking open minded approach to our teaching methods and curriculum.
One constant over the last year and a half that I have been working on this site is that I am very terrible about updating it. Usually Facebook and the Nomad fan page provides a better source of updates than this site does but I will continue to try to work on that. Onto more...
Starting on July 5th, 2011 we will be adding two new classes per week to go along with our current scheduled Jiu-Jitsu classes. Jiu-Jitsu Fundamentals will be a one hour, Gi-only class focused on the basics and helping those new to grappling catch up with their peers. The classes will be taught by Hunter Paschal...
I recently came across a couple YouTube videos when I was searching to add some new stretching and Jiu-Jitsu drills into the fold to break the monotony that our warm ups had become. I believe in evolving and improving in all facets of Jiu-Jitsu from the takedowns to the drills to the stretching to mats...
Every Summer in Memphis seems to be more and more unbearable with the heat and of course the humidity. The only clear-cut obvious way to combat this is with Jiu-Jitsu training. Summer is when you start to see who is really committed to becoming a great martial artist and who is committed to sit in...
I’m sorry but I have been very bad at updating this lately as I have been more busy than I thought I would be. Tournament updates: In August and October the Nomad Jiu-Jitsu guys (and gal) competed in tournaments in Tupelo, Mississippi and Atlanta, Georgia. Everyone made a great and competitive showing and nearly everyone...
On Saturday July 17th, 2010 Nomad Jiu-Jitsu grapplers traveled to Nashville to compete in the EGO (extremegrapplingopen.com) Tournament at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds. All competitors placed in No-Gi divisions and while this would make any outing spectacular, it was made extra incredible seeing as how this was the first grappling competition that Nomad Jiu-Jitsu has...
With classes currently coming to a halt at Damage Martial Arts the schedule will be changing to reflect this and add classes to the already packed program at Urban Fitness Kickboxing. Keep in mind these classes will not go into effect until July 5th and they should stay permanent from that point forward with only...
Well, kind of expanding and kind of contracting. Retroactive from June 1st, Nomad Jiu-Jitsu will no longer be holding MMA Classes to completely focus on expanding our Jiu-Jitsu schedule. We are currently working out a new schedule that should go into effect July 1st that will revamp some of the class times along with adding...
Starting today, Nomad Jiu-Jitsu and Urban Fitness Kickboxing are now affiliated with World Champion Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and UFC veteran Diego Saraiva out of Atlanta GA. With this affiliation the Jiu-Jitsu program will strengthen ten-fold under the guidance of a great Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt. We will begin to start looking at dates to...
Starting this Tuesday the 18th, Nomad Jiu-Jitsu will start offering daytime Jiu-Jitsu classes at Urban Fitness Kickboxing in Bartlett. Every Tuesday and Thursday at 12:00pm till 1:30pm you will be able to get more training in than you could previously and work on tuning up your Jiu-Jitsu game or completely taking it to the next...
Starting the 15th of May we will be doing a weekly Gi class at Urban Fitness Kickboxing at 12:00pm until 1:30pm with the time after that being used for open mat training. I have changed the time on the schedule to reflect this as well. I hope to see people out ready to train in...
This Wednesday at 7:00pm will be the first Jiu-Jitsu class in the new UFK location (about 80feet behind the old one) on brand new mats that are supposed to be delivered on Tuesday. This will be the 3rd class offered per week at Urban Fitness Kickboxing. I’m looking forward to getting more Jiu-Jitsu in with...
The video is mostly in jest. The man in the video is Stephan Kesting, he is a great Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt as well as an authority on other Martial Arts. A lot of traditional Martial Art techniques really don’t hold as much credibility as they once might have. This does not go for all...
What’s next? So far I have been super excited about the classes. Everyone (and I mean everyone) is picking up on the techniques I am showing and really coming through with the execution. The desire to learn has been awesome too. I really appreciate the guys and gals that have been participating in classes with...
Welcome to Nomad Jiu-Jitsu! Finally got all the content and tweaks done to the site to be able to put it up and be pretty proud of it. I am planning to add more and revamp some of what is already here so it will continue to change throughout the weeks and months. A few...
Shuichiro Katsumura pulls off the upset against Masakatsu Ueda by switching from rubber guard to a reverse guillotine or no arm brabo choke.
Getting a jump on the project/program. This site will eventually be more robust and house pictures and video as well as constant updates from multiple contributors. This site should be seen as a celebration of the sport and a fountain of knowledge. Thank you for stopping by. .jason
Can you imagine what I would do if I could do all I can?
